EGP Co-Spokespersons Support SF in Danish Elections
The Spokespersons of the European Green Party today
expressed their enthusiastic support for SF (Socialistisk Folkeparti), which has
observer status within the EGP, in the upcoming parliamentary election in Denmark
on Tuesday 13th November.
EGP Co-Spokesperson Ulrike Lunacek said:
“We very much hope that Danish voters vote for SF in the Danish
parliamentary elections on Tuesday 13th November. SF have engaged in
a positive campaign in which they have highlighted the key issues of climate
change and social welfare. This is important because the current Danish
government has displayed a shocking lack of ambition in terms of taking real
action to combat climate change. SF will work for a huge increase in the number
of wind turbines in Denmark
and for much better public transport. Denmark will host the UN Climate
Summit in 2009 and it is crucial that the host actually sets a good example for
the rest of the world.”
EGP Co-Spokesperson Philippe
Lamberts continued: “In terms of social
welfare, SF is the most progressive party. SF is fighting for more
comprehensive care of old people and for a better education system. In
particular, SF’s manifesto includes a commitment to considerably reduce
class sizes. We very much hope that Danish electors vote for SF in order to
ensure that Denmark
implements policies that will make a real impact on climate change and that the
country’s welfare system is able to tackle the problems of poverty and
social exclusion. That is why we urge Danish voters to vote for SF on November
13th.”
